Beginner I- Bilingual in a Year (20 classes, 40 hours)
This class is for any adult who would like to learn Spanish from the ground up! Beginning students have a variety of experiences. Some have traveled to Spanish speaking countries, some have studied many years ago and forgotten everything, and others have never studied the language. Still some have good reading skills, and understand basic phrases but are unable to converse. These students will also get familiar with online support for learning Spanish with technology.
Skills to learn: Numbers 0-10,000, alphabet, telling time, dates, regular and irregular present tense verbs, present progressive tense, reflexive verbs, stem changers, colors, adjective/ noun agreement, location words, basic question words/ classroom phrases
Beginner II- Bilingual in a Year (20 classes, 40 hours)
This class is for adults who would like to continue to learn Spanish from the foundation they have already started. Advanced Beginners have a variety of experiences as well, however they have a strong base knowledge of the language. They have learned all the skills in the Beginner I Class. Beginner II students will read mini- novels, an attend recommended filed trips as well.
Intermediate I- Bilingual in a Year (20 classes, 40 hours)
Intermediate I students have a strong grasp of the grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and conversational abilities necessary for total immersion. They are able to converse effectively in 4 tenses: present, preterit, present progressive, future progressive. Students will learn and practice 5 more tenses in this class. Students write for a variety of purposes, ask and answer questions from mini-novels, and do short oral presentations.
Intermediate II- Bilingual in a Year (20 classes, 40 hours)
Intermediate II students are discussing daily events in Spanish. They converse with each other as much as they converse with the teacher in Spanish. They are learning and practicing 9 tenses in the indicative mood. In this class we are working hard to train the ear for quicker conversation. We often integrate film and multimedia into the class. Students will be introduced to the subjunctive mood and begin to use it more often. Students will do 5-10 minute oral presentations on topics they enjoy.
Advanced I- Bilingual in a Year (20 classes, 40 hours)
Advanced I students show an ability to tense change and “think” in Spanish. All questions, explanations and discussions are in Spanish. Students engage in 15-20 minute oral presentations. Students are increasing their ability to use the subjunctive mood in several tenses. We practice oral translation as well as written. Students have a higher level of reading ability.
Advanced II- Bilingual in a Year (20 classes, 40 hours)
Advanced II students are “loving and living” Spanish in their daily lives. They are engaged with other native speakers, traveling, and reading on their own. They will do 25-30 minute oral presentations, often lead guided discussions, and incorporate film and multimedia in the classroom. Advanced II students will acquire a larger and more sophisticated vocabulary for working with other professionals as well.
Beginning Spanish for Educators (1 or 2 semesters)
Teachers, Administrators and Support staff need bilingual skills to be effective in the community. Holly's 8 years of experience teaching in Public Schools allows her an insider's perspective on the necessary vocabulary, phrases and grammar structures to help educators survive and thrive in a bilingual environment. Educators develop the conversation skills they need immediately and put them to work the next day!
Summer Spanish Conversation Class (Beginner - Intermediate Students, Mondays: July 5, 12, 19, 26, 6:45pm-8:15pm, 1.5 hours each class)
Learn a new set of Juicy Words each week and practice key phrases to communicate in Spanish. This is a great time to introduce your family and friends to the fun you're having as you learn Spanish. They don’t need any previous Spanish to enjoy this class with you.
Spring/ Summer Spanish Boost (8 weeks)
For students who are interested in improving their Spanish for Spring or Summer travel, here's the ideal class for you. This class starts in April and ends in May. It will get you started and help you be successful on the road. Most of these students desire to continue in the Fall, and take the bilingual in a year program.
